About Me

I have been a licensed psychologist (first, in NY, and currently, since 1980, in NJ). I’ve always had a private practice. From 1976-1987 I trained as a psychoanalyst. I have practiced both techniques with adults and couples. I’ve had the opportunity to work with men struggling to cope with the pressures and stressors associated with society’s expectations for men. They also struggle with issues of intimacy and sexual performance.

From 1970-1980 I was an Assistant Professor of Psychology, and from 1980-2016 I was an Associate Professor of Psychology all at Montclair State University. I retired as a Professor Emeritus in 2016. From 1986 to the present, I have been a member of the Institute for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy of NJ (IPPNJ) and a more recently formed institute, The Center for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis of NJ (CPPNJ). From 2001-2008 I was the director of IPPNJ.

From 2008-2009 I was the Co-Director of CPPNJ (an entity resulting from the merger of IPPNJ and CCAPT (Center for the Advanced Psychoanalytic Studies). Throughout those times, I also provided psychoanalytic treatment, supervision, and class instruction to registered candidates.

Whether as a professor or a psychotherapist, my primary focus was and is to provide a safe, informative, and compassionate environment.
